The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region. Made up of 62 member States, with a geographical scope that stretches from Turkey in the west to the Pacific island nation of Kiribati in the east, and from the Russian Federation in the north to New Zealand in the south, the region is home to 4.1 billion people, or two thirds of the world’s population. This makes ESCAP the most comprehensive of the United Nations five regional commissions, and the largest United Nations body serving the Asia-Pacific region with over 600 staff.

Established in 1947 with its headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, ESCAP works to overcome some of the region’s greatest challenges by providing results oriented projects, technical assistance and capacity building to member States in the following areas:

  1. Macroeconomic Policy and Development
  2. Trade and Investment
  3. Transport
  4. Social Development
  5. Environment and Sustainable Development
  6. Information and Communications Technology and Disaster Risk Reduction
  7. Statistics
  8. Sub-regional activities for development

CAMFFA and UNESCAP

  1. There are mainly two ways for people working in freight forwarding industry to obtain the knowledge which is used in daily work 1) learning in work 2) learning by attending relevant training program.
  2. In some cases, useful and relevant knowledge (such as transport, trade and logistics) can be learnt from universities which is not available in Cambodia but given the complex feature of the freight forwarding business, there is rarely a university in the world which offers a program for freight forwarding.
  3. With the support from UNESCAP in Asia the industry associations have played a very active role in promoting and organizing training.

CAMFFA course on Logistic and Multimodal Transport has been developed since 2007 with the support of UNESCAP Transport and Tourism Division program
